Living on the Bread of Life

From the inbox:

“My ds (7) and dd (4) have been enjoying poetry memorization but not scripture memorization…. I’m feeling convicted to teach my children God’s word and I like to learn larger sections. I’m just not sure how to go about it.

Do you have any suggestions or resources you would recommend? I’d love to hear your opinion too, if you have time to share. “

Thank you,
A reader from Mesa, AZ

What our family does: you can read our full story here: A.R.T. of Memorizing

Currently, we are working with another family, memorizing the Book of 1 John. We’ve slowed our pace to 4 verses a week, with weeks built in for reviewing all previous verses, and then weeks set aside for complete chapter review. The children in our family recite to the children in our partner family, and the adults recite to each other each Sunday morning after worship services. We memorize as a family at each mealtime, making up songs for the verse, or actions, and recite the verses several times per meal. Our partner family graciously set the book of 1 John up into a booklet for us, dividing it into 4 verse blocks with spaces for signatures. We have found that the children, as well as adults, reciting to a fellow memorizer, instead of a “hearer” has been more beneficial as they see that a peer is also committed to learning the verses.

Sing the Word “The latest CD from the very musical Harrow Family has become one of my favorites from any genre. The musical and production quality alone should place this CD at the top of Billboard’s charts. Though I could recommend this CD for purely musical reasons alone, the most compelling quality is how fully God’s anointing permeates it. I really can’t stress enough how much we all have enjoyed this CD and the others that you have made.”
