And so the ‘poem’ goes….
Connect… then direct….
(I am not connecting well –not touching enough…. not spending enough one-on-one time)
What did I say? Will you obey?
(even though a yes answer may be given after reiterating the instructions, if a child isn’t following through, I need to be consistent: If you choose not to obey, then I will be asking you to….. I decide what is disobedience and will not be arguing with you.)
They’ll know what to expect by what I inspect….
(I need to stay close and keep checking in every few minutes… just staying close…offering support… modeling.)
As a friend’s signature quote declares: There is not a particle of life which does not bear poetry within it. ~Gustav Flaubert
And that includes parenting.
Lord, my parenting was less than poetic this morning– it was awful… and sinful. Can You help me write something more beautiful — more God-glorifying— this afternoon?
