Living–the real, marrow stuff of living– is about connecting. Relationship is the essence of reality. Anything else is mirage.
In these up-for-air summer days, I reflect: how often do I connect and collect my children? Or are there more days that I merely manage them? How often do my exchanges with our children myopically focus on a task to accomplish, a subject to learn, or a behavior to change–instead of on a person, a heart, a relationship?
How do I make my mothering be about the big stuff: delighting in, drawing close, inviting dependence as I offer to help, or about gentle direction as a caring guide in a big world?
Care to make these days of summer about simple relationship and companionship in tranquil, rich spaces?
