The Lovers' Text

"Exegisis is loving God enough
to stop
and listen
carefully to what He says.

It follows that we bring the leisure and attentiveness
of lovers to this text,
cherishing every comma and semicolon,
relishing the oddness of this preposition,
delighting in the surprising placement of this noun.

Lovers
do not take a quick look,
get a "message" or a "meaning"
and then run off and talk endlessly to their friends about how they feel....

We are not interested in knowing more,
but in becoming more."

The Plan

In the experiences of a simple/crazy life,
farming Canadian dirt, raising
half a dozen exuberant kids,
stringing sheets out on the line....

I'm praying to slow and see
the sacred in the chaos,
the Cross in the clothespin,
the flame in the bush.

Just a bit of
listening, laundry, liturgy...
life.
