How to Celebrate Christmas

Part of this week’s prayerful focus on Celebrate

Gentle, comforting thoughts:

The chief end and duty of men and women during this season of Advent is, happily, not to select, buy, bake, sew, saw, glue, send, wrap, stamp, cut, clean, seal, or cook.

The chief end and duty of men and women, during this season of Advent is simply, (and yet, funny, sadly, how it takes such great effort) to love God and ENJOY Him forever.

Pause, Hurried Heart. Gather your thoughts. How might you, in the midst of it today, love God and enjoy Him? Enjoy Him. We are embracing not a human production of Christmas, but the divine person of Christ.

How might I experience, embrace, enjoy You today, Father? Is that You calling me to celebrate Christmas with prayers in the firelight, walks through the woods, songs in twilight? Cookies to homeless, bread to neighbors, giving to the least of these… and enjoying the warmth of Your smile.

Today I enjoy celebrating You, the Christ of Christmas….

Lord, I am stilling for a moment today, sitting quietly before You, with no words, no agenda, no list. My chief end today isn’t to produce, but to enjoy Your presence. And so I will…. I do.
