The Gift Bearer

Epiphany has come and gone. The wise men have brought their gifts, bowing low. Jesus has been revealed to the world as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

And I think… He, the Child, is the One who keeps offering gift upon gift, the One who keeps revealing Himself, close and tender, to a lost world.

I collect the gifts (oh, so many!)… and bow low too. In thanks.

959. Hoar frost shimmering on sentinal spruce surrounding farmhouse
960. clear blue sky, nipping nose
961. the laughter of children, brothers and sisters, skating, silver blades on ice, on the Dad-made rink by the barn

962. shadows and curls, light and love
963. mittened hands, sisters, steadying across the snow
964. kisses in the dark

965. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord….” Oh, Father, we fall and rise, fall and rise
966. Steel-cut oatmeal simmering early
967. A husband whisper, “I’d like to buy bulbs…” “Bulbs?” “Yes… and plant them all over the countryside, in the ditches.” Love brims, swells, blurs … Ah, just like Miss Rumphius. And your Mama would be so happy…

970. table set in sunshine, old worn chairs waiting
971. kettle whistling, Come! Come!
972. “Beloved, now we are children of God, & it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

973. moon rising over farm fields… another day for Your glory by Your grace

Lord Jesus, we come to You with gifts… but find it is really You who pursues us, You who kneels low in love and gives the gifts. And we, giddy with surprise, say YES! We will be Your bride, smittenly Yours.
