The world whirls with a blur of
Stocks and headlines and loud things
Like wailing children and pounding headaches and squawking timers
That spin me
Disoriented,
And I steady myself at counter, in front of kitchen window, just in time to see
A singular leaf, ablaze, light to earth, and somewhere
I hear the giggling of girls, and this stream of light pools golden about
chilled feet, and I can’t help but wonder if that’s
Because that’s when I knew which way to go
Towards joy.

“Seeing our Father in everything
makes
life one long thanksgiving
and gives a rest of heart, and,
more than that,
a gayety of spirit, that is unspeakable.”
~ Hannah Whitall Smith

… a shared basket for a gathering of the wonders
… propped feet for long, good words with curious young wordfayers
… crumpled endings falling on seeds of grassy new beginnings
… dinner’s candlelight and us all circled
seamlessly, somehow, becomes nightly
banagrams and laughter and us all circled
…big windows and a girl with a book
… old sunlight stacked and ready to warm through the coming long cold
… determined remnants of summer…
… earth and sky and hope: spreading natural fertilizer for next year’s crop
… eating apple while signals from the satellites steer (auto steer and GPS)
… the happy purr of feline and child in fall’s lingering light.
Lord, please, give me eyes to see how You are always passing by.
