That also is a gain…

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, in His Letters and Papers from Prison,

“In the prison courtyard here,

there is a thrush which sings beautifully every morning,
and now he has started this evening too.

One is grateful for little things,

and that also is a gain.”

Could gain be so easy as gratitude for little things?

“Test me, O LORD, and try me; examine my heart and my mind.

For your love is before my eyes

(the gift of all these little things!)

that I may go in procession round your altar,

Singing aloud a song of thanksgiving

and recounting all your wonderful deeds.”

(that also is gain, that is great gain… gain in You)

~ Psalm 26:2-7
