What’s the dream?

We dreamed a dream
in time gone by
of now

and now

we dream a dream
of time gone by.

When life was quiet
And God-stillness worth the living.

Have we killed the dream
we dreamed?

He always let the horses rest at field’s end.
He paused too.

And the world in its orbit of apple blossoms
slowed and the horse clipped by
and I could almost hear their
voices.

Hear the flapping of laundry strung out
to the barn, banners hailing
simple dreams.

Make it your ambition
to lead a quiet life
and attend to your own business
and work with your hands….”

~1 Thessalonians 4:11

Lord, I confess the ingratitude that can creep into my now moments, then later longing for the quiet grace of what was. Cause me to examine my dreams…. are they Yours? In the quiet… we hear You.
