Want to Help Me Change the World?

(I could never be so brave as to stammer this all out in person… When I was a young, us farm kids sold watermelons and sweet corn on the roadside. I didn’t mind at all the hard work of picking — just let me stay out in the fields, dirty and sweating. But selling? I’d hide behind the wagon, and let my brave little sister do all the talking.

Yet here, with a keyboard, I might just get courageous? And I feel passionate about the cause. Know I type with shy, blushing fingers … Forgive me for being bold? But maybe it’s the least I can do?…)

Want to join our family in changing the world?

I know. It’s really hard to get our head around big problems, numbers. They sort of paralyze us.

And the numbers are staggering – 67 million refugees and internally displaced peoples according to a United Nations 2007 report.

But every one of these people have real names, real faces, real stories…. like this child from Uganda. Over half of all refugees are women and children, vulnerable and voiceless, fleeing war, persecution and tribal violence.

I can’t help 67 million displaced peoples.

But you and I, we could help one. We could do that!

This October 3rd, Farmer Husband, all six kids and I are joining 6,000 other bike riders in Australia, the USA and Canada to help raise over over $1, 000, 000 in Ride for Refugees 2009.

You and I, we might not be able to go to Uganda. But we don’t have to be paralyzed.

Together, we could do this, reach our hands, Christ’s hands, out to those in need.

Would you join me? Together, you and I, one plus one — we could really help just one.

Might you advocate for refugees by supporting us with your sponsorship of a donation here (for the USA) and here (for Canada)?

Or, if you’d prefer, you can donate through Paypal here and your donation will be forwarded to Ride For Refugees. (Please just indicate at Paypal if you are Canadian or American, for tax receipt purposes. However you kindly choose to donate, you too will receive an electronic tax receipt from International Teams for your records.)

When Farmer Husband and the kids and I are all pedaling away on October 3rd… we’d love to know that you are partnering with us to change the world…. and the life of one refugee.

We really could!
