March, we saw you coming in so demure, a lamb, and we sat at the farm table after noon meal, the plates all pushed back and empty, and we watched out the window, watched the neighboring Mennonites heading to the woods, to the maples all waking, that thermometer stirring them with mercury over zero.
"Already?" a boy wonders, and The Farmer murmurs, "Yes, it's getting that time of year again," and he grins a country mile wide, a planting man scenting the faintest stirrings of spring, and the Mennonites make their way across the white fields, this year's maiden voyage to the maple sugar shanty.
And I watch quiet, thinking of clear sap dripping from the trees spiked through, and a Lamb that is the Lion of Judah that hung on the wood, and the month of March, it blows in gentle.
Gentle across the lips parted and longing to drink sweet mercy that flows down the grain of the wood.
So we welcome March....

And March and the sap running in the woods... meets hearts preparing for Easter:
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
