the quiet ambition of thanks
When making it your ambition to lead a quiet life, working with your hands, the fingers come to easily bend, fold together, bow, in a posture of thanks.
So this is how a life catches light.
… just quiet thanks for a quiet life
#1996 – #2014 of one thousand, endless gifts
the lights of home up on the hill after a day travelling thousands of miles
the smell of his skin
kissing the crook of her neck first thing in morning
watching the sun rise from home, over our fields, us all here together again
roads that led to working & envisioning & laughing with an amazing team committed to the High Calling of our daily work …
the meeting of a long dear friend
escaping the tyranny of the new
the ache of fasting
Christ, my only bread
farming hands
no such thing as too much love
leftovers in the fridge in the dark of eleven o’clock
coming home to an empty laundry basket
the familiar curve of our mattress under tired bones
porridge on October mornings
the silence of gravel roads
a day ahead — a life ahead — of working with hands
patches of light
the quietest things
… make it your ambition to lead a quiet life…
… give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
