Free Easter Devotional with Easter Passion Tree {Because Easter’s More Important than Christmas}

We begin “The Trail to the Tree”… that set us free. Will you join us in these Easter Devotionals?

Each of the 17 day journey towards Easter includes:

The full  text of the day’s Bible reading in either ESV, NLT or  MSG (of course, feel free to read from your own Bible, if you’d prefer another translation.) Readings are selected to lead chronologically through the significant events in the story of the life of Christ — each passage of Scripture another step on our “Trail to the Tree…”

A verse to prayerfully linger over as a family — a verse to pause over for a moment or two, close eyes and deeply reflect on. This journey is different than the Jesse Tree Journey, in that it is just focused alone on Scripture and prayer and living the Gospel — without any peripheral notes or added commentary, only prayer… simply, powerfully Christ-centric and Biblically focused.

A short, simple action point for the day –  a way to do something together as a family that not only invites the coming Kingdom of God and Jesus’ love into your home and community, but is an opportunity to apply and obediently live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

A full color ornament, all classic art from the masters,  to hang on your own Easter Passion Tree…. an art study, like a prayerful walk through a museum. The very last pages of the book include all of the ornaments in over several pages so you can easily cut each ornament out and creatively mount to your own preference.

How to Make Your Own Easter Passion Tree

1. A container to hold branches — dogwood, pussywillows, forsythia etc.

2. Cut out and mount the classic paintings of the masters, to hang as ornaments {consider writing the number of the day’s devotional on the back of the ornament}

3. Perhaps hang decorative eggs from the branches, symbolic of new life in Christ…. that out of His sacrificial death on the tree, comes new life found only in Christ

3. After prayerfully meditating on each day’s Scripture reading, hang each ornament of a classic painting upon the passion tree.

5. Consider using the Passion Tree as a natural opportunity to share our only hope, the Gospel of Christ, with those who visit your home throughout the Easter season…

The Easter Devotionals are our free gift to you, our friends…

To thank you. For all the ways you’ve cared and encouraged and written notes and prayed for us and reached out and supported us, through this past season of stretching out of comfort zones. I can’t thank you enough. Though I can’t always express it well to each and every one who emails, prays, supports, know how our heart swells… Our whole family, we truly appreciate you.

So from our heart and home to you and yours this season of New Life in Christ, may our family offer this book to you as our humble, imperfect little gift?

May we all find the abundant life, fullest joy,  in Christ year round.

So utterly grateful,

How Christians May Create
{And a SheSpeaks Scholarship}

On the back of used envelopes, my Grandma wrote grocery lists, and I wrote bits of my heart, right to the edge where the seam was ripped right open…

The summer I was ten and stood as tall as she was small, Grandma walked straight into the Northumberland News and laid my clumsy envelope words flat out on the editor’s desk and when she told me what she’d done, I about died, but this is true: she tucked belief straight into me. Women can do this for each other.

God made woman to be a maker, to open her empty places and let life be knit from within her.

Grandma, she lived at the end of Deiter Busch’s sideroad and she milked forty cows and she birthed five babies and it’s sows I’ve fed here, birthed the six babies. This art of making and creating, it’s a birthing — the sides of our life enlarging with the work of God, mind magnifying Maker.

The dwelling places of God have always been bowed women murmuring, “May it be to me as you have said.We may bear the image of God but we may only bear His gift to the world when we willingly bear the pain of the birthing.

An altar precedes all art and sacrifice is the father of all story, offspring of the Word God with scars. What writer doesn’t bear wounds? How can we participate in the sufferings of the Word made flesh if we shirk the price? I have recoiled.

But there is only one bare way to let His light warm the cold —  and vulnerability is this terrifying sheer beauty, a luminous transparency. To give life, we must lay ours down. Yet this too is true: Rachel didn’t bear Benjamin alone, a midwife kneeling low. Women can do this for each other.

Every Moses needs an Aaron.

In North Carolina in July, there’s this gathering of Proverbs 31 women gather around their sisters women in ministry, leading, writing, speaking, and offer, “How can we serve you as you serve? How can we help you bear the risk of creating, all for His glory? How can we help you multiply the talent that He’s invested in you? How might you bury your fear in faith to keep from burying His gifts for good?

A gathering of mentors who bend as midwives, to serve what God is birthing in your heart.

SheSpeaks … only because He Speaks.

It was a true Proverbs 31 woman, the profoundly generous Marybeth Whalen, who tucked a note in my inbox, who spread some of my raw, unpolished words out on a desk and I’d about died when she told me what she’d done, but women do do this for each other.

Women like Lysa TerKeurst who has given of herself and prayed with me and and enfleshed the Gospel of Jesus for me, and when I’ve wanted to run to the hills, she’s taken my hand and laid it gentle in the hands of Jesus, and said we’ll all walk together. Proverbs 31, along with incredibly magnanimous friends like Cec Murphy, have asked if I might offer a scholarship to SheSpeaks in this quiet corner — for another woman who may prefer the quiet corners but she can hear His whisper calling:  God’s calling you out of your comfort zone .

And, Lord willing, come July, this farm girl, way out of her comfort zone but resting in the hands of Jesus, looks forward to meeting you after offering the closing keynote at SheSpeaks

Just a moment to take your hand and tuck some belief into you, you open to the message God’s writing on your life,  you with the weak, God-strong heart open right there beautiful at the edge … .

Is God leading you to come serve?

She Speaks Conference

How to apply for this She Speaks Scholarship:

1. Write a post on your blog that just reflects a bit of your heart — any story/essay/post that connects the reader’s heart to the heart of God. Then just include at the post’s conclusion, a little endnote/footnote/textbox mentioning that the She Speaks Conference is about women connecting the hearts of women to the heart of our Father God and that your heart is to serve Him and His daughters, as He leads.

3. In your little endnote/footnote of your post, please link both to this post, offering this scholarship opportunity, as well the She Speaks Conference website, so the other women may too have the opportunity to serve Him? {If you’d like, you may post the She Speaks button.}

4. If you might post by Saturday, April 2nd, 2011, 9 am EST? Then leave the link to the exact URL of your post here below, in the linky…

6. A few reading friends will then select ten final entries (that will remain undisclosed) … and the recipient will then be randomly selected from the ten final entries to receive a scholarship for the cost of one person’s registration for the 2011 She Speaks conference. Please take His hand and take the risk and know how I am praying for your brave hearts this week — and please know that the final recipient will be randomly selected from the undisclosed ten finalists, so that you don’t have to feel uncomfortable at all — everyone knows that the recipient was random. You can rest… and step out! We’re cheering you on with all the angels!

The recipient of the scholarship will be announced here, Lord willing,  next Monday morning.

{The value of this scholarship is $595 which includes your conference materials, conference registration, 2 nights at the conference hotel and meals associated with the conference. Please note, it does not include any travel expenses. Also, you will be assigned a room mate or you have the option to pay the extra charge for a private room.}

God bless you all, humbly offering up your life just to serve Him as He leads…

For I am full of words,
and the spirit within me compels me

~Job 32:18

And so goes the Posture of the Body of Christ…

All is grace, if the knee’s surrendered.

All is grace, if the eyes see and believe.

All is grace, if the heart receives all with gratitude, trusting the goodness of God.

And when all is grace, God working all things to certain good,

it’s our hands that hands that rise in thanks,

open and willingly to fully receive…
