And when she walks through the garden at twilight, and the hollyhocks sway their scarlet bells out by the wheat field, I stand on the porch and wonder.
What it would be like – to only have that in my life today — which I murmured thanks to God to last night?
The sweet corn’s coming into tassel.
The wheat’s ripening dark gold.
Maybe today to dig a hole for the posts to put in the new clothesline? Drive to the country hardware with the windows rolled down and the fields flying by?
It’s hot and dry here.
Rain fell soundless sometime last night.
The way thanks can water a life….
